Train to Darjeeling by Sanjoy Mookerjee
Now out of stock until next year

Sanjoy Mookerjee served with Indian Railways for almost four decades, retiring from the Railway Board in 2016 as Financial Commissioner and Member (Finance). Deeply committed to railway heritage he has been instrumental in many conservation projects (such as the splendid Rail Heritage Park at Tinsukia with DHR ‘B’ Class No 781) and has made a valuable contribution to formulating policy for railway heritage. Now in a very active retirement he manages the Rail Enthusiast Society’s Kolkata Chapter, delivering a fascinating and varied programme of events.

Sanjoy’s first book is a delightfully varied selection of short stories and experiences covering many, often unusual aspects of railway life, not least shunting with elephants and the role of the humble railway catering cutlets in shaping his future career! The title and the first chapter reflect his very first visit to Darjeeling at the tender age of seven. Written with wit and humour, and including illustrations by his wife Sudakshina, this is an eminently readable little volume. Recommended.
