New boiler for 19B - October 2026 update
The welded parts of the new boiler have been inspected by the authority for the boiler safety and they are happy with what they have seen, the white ‘paint’ is where they have used ultrasonic testing to verify the welds.
The boiler has now been assembled with the inner firebox (the part on its side to the right) in place, all the stays have been fitted between the inner and outer firebox, and the foundation ring riveted in place at the bottom of the fire box.
Next the boiler will be completely filled with water and pressure tested, this should happen by the end of October 2026.
On completion of that test, then the water level will be reduced to its working level,
a fire lit and a steam test given.
It is hoped that the new boiler will be back at Statfold and united with the running gear ready for use in the New year.
The only outstanding costs are to reassemble 19B with a new smokebox,
chimney barrel and a full repaint.
