New boiler for 19B - September 2026 update
The welded parts of the new boiler have been inspected by the authority for the boiler safety and they are happy with what they have seen, the white ‘paint’ is where they have used ultrasonic testing to verify the welds.
The next time they want to see it is when it is assembled with the inner firebox (the part on its side to the right) in place, all the stays fitted between the inner and outer firebox, and the foundation ring riveted in place at the bottom of the fire box.
At this point the boiler will be completely filled with water and pressure tested.
On completion of that test, then the water level will be reduced to its working level,
a fire lit and a steam test given.
It is hoped that the new boiler will be back at Statfold and united with the running gear ready for use in the New year.
The only outstanding costs are to reassemble 19B with a new smokebox,
chimney barrel and a full repaint.
